    Teaching

    I have been lecturing in the Heterogeneous Reaction Engineering course together with Prof. Pérez-Ramírez since 2012 and assisting the Catalysis Engineering course since 2010. Additionally, I am responsible for the Chemistry course at DMAVT since 2016.

    Research

    I am engaged in the development of chemocatalytic technologies for the valorization of renewables. I search for more efficient and sustainable routes to upgrade glycerol, burgeoning byproduct of biodiesel production, and sugar-derived platform compounds into added-value chemicals. This task primarily comprises the design of performing catalysts, which is routed on their fundamental understanding in terms of structure-performance relationships and of mechanistic aspects. For this purpose, state-of-the-art ex and in situ characterization techniques are combined with catalytic testing. Additionally, reactor engineering and process design and assessment by life cycle analysis are applied as far as possible. I guide Giacomo and Miriam in these activities. A second line of research aims at gathering an improved knowledge of novel and conventional catalysts applied to the synthesis of higher alcohols from syngas and methanol through CO2 hydrogenation to generate improved materials. In these studies, I supervise Matthias and Harris and collaborate with an external industry partner. The selective conversion of CO2 into formic acid, commodity chemical and hydrogen carrier, is also under investigation.
