    Selective natural gas upgrading by oxychlorination

    Abundant natural gas reserves and dwindling oil supplies create a strong demand for the utilization of light alkanes as chemical feedstocks. One of the least energy and capital intensive means by which this can be achieved is the oxychlorination reaction, in which an alkane reacts with HCl and O2 to form an alkyl chloride and water under mild conditions. My research aims to identify active, selective and stable catalysts, which could ultimately enable the future industrial application of this process.
