Natural gas valorization

My research focuses on the advancement of technologies for the direct functionalization of light alkanes, main components of abundant natural gas, into value-added chemicals and liquid fuels, which is considered as a key strategy to transit towards the renewables era. Two cornerstones to meet this great challenge are the development of selective catalysts as well as of operando spectroscopic techniques that enable to shed light on the mechanism of catalytic reactions. In these directions, I collaborate with Sharon and Alessia within our group to develop superior zeolites for substituted methanes coupling as well as to explore the potential of positron annihilation lifetime, EPR, and photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopies for the understanding of complex materials and mechanisms under reaction conditions. In addition, I also work together with Simon in order to engineer at the atomic level selective catalysts for alkane-to-olefin routes.
